Artist's Comments

Done in a sketchbook with a ballpoint pen.

This is a common duality theme, but with the added layer of mental illness.

One thing I tried to do here is contrast the rigid, active lines (left) with the depressing, round loops and circles on the right to show both dimensions of the disorder. I like the way it turned out.

I really like this piece, especially the way you handled the pen (I like the cross hatching on the edges)...since you have encouraged advanced critique, the only thing I can really suggest is maybe adding color, maybe even just to the pill. Anyways, it's very awesome!

Yeah color may be a good addition here. It does seem a little too graphic rather than painterly, which would add a much needed dimension. I'll play with it in photoshop when I have the time.

I visited your page and your pencil work getting much better.

I'll see you later in class. Again, thanks for the notes.

Not really. I mean, I've seen his stuff and it's good, but I like that uhhhh "CAM's hapy pencil" guy more. My style just kinda happens to be like their's I suppose. My work has always been real technical and cerebral. Plus, I almost always listen to TOOL while drawing or painting, so maybe there's a sub-concious jungian thing goin' on their.

Thanks for viewing!

Nice duality.. you know Gemini's like me are up to our eye balls in dealin' with diffrent aspects on diffrent levels of our dualities. nicely done .. I think you may be able to play up a new layer of duality if you would entertain teh idea of hand painting one part in violent strokes of colors and the otehr side soft muted colors from Photoshop.. =)

Pain is the best baby sitter . let a kid hurt himself so bad he will remember Not to do that again..

Excellent concept. The contrast is nicely thought out and rendered.

I agree. I'd love the see this piece in color. It could help extend the idea even further.

Almira Gulch! Just because you own half the county doesn't mean you have the power to run the rest of us. For twenty-three years, I've been dying to tell you what I thought of you. And now, well, being a Christian woman, I can't say it.

Yeah, the only problem is that I've worked with the whole yin and yang, contrast of opposites theme so many times before. Right now I'm trying to branch off into other styles and themes. As an artist you also need to push the envelop and change as to not remain static. So, yeah I agree, but maybe it's too late.
